Everything and Nothing
Monday, December 18th, 2006I’ve been noticing some things about the internet lately – it gives us the world, but also gives us a way to hide from that same world. Let me explain.
There are so many different types of sites and communities out there, that you can eventually find a group of like-minded folks on almost any topic. This is great when you want to talk to folks about specific topics like Learning Space Design or Dave Blaney. Of course, taken to the logical end, you can find sites that are dedicated to fringe ideas and attitudes as well. But in reality, isn’t my interest in Learning Space Design and Dave Blaney just a fringe idea to someone else?
My point here is that I can hide under a rock while I engage my community of like-minded folks, while the other views, opinions and ideas are simply not engaged. If we are not careful, this wealth of information also allows a wealth of tunnel vision.
